Skype is a popular proprietary voip application that is available also for linux. It is not installed by default in Ubuntu but it is available from the repositories.
First we need to activate the Canonical partners software:- open Software & Updates
- go to Other Software tab
- mark Canonical Partners check box
Now you need to update the software repositories: open a terminal and run sudo apt-get update . You may need to log-out and log back in, and now you can install skype from the Software Center.
Alternatively, if you want the latest version of Skype, you can download and install it from their official website. But be careful, you may install one or the other, but not both versions of Skype.
